The Mellenville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is seeking motivated community members to join our organization. Whether you are interested in becoming an Active Member or an Active Member with Restrictions (ages 16–17), we offer meaningful opportunities to serve, learn, and grow while helping protect your neighbors.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome individuals who are:

• Committed to serving the Mellenville community

• Reliable, team‑oriented, and willing to learn

• Interested in emergency services or community support

• Between 16 and 17 years old (Active with Restrictions) or 18+ (Active Member)

No prior experience is required. All necessary training is provided.

Membership Opportunities

Active Members (18+)

Active Members are trained firefighters who may respond to emergency calls and participate fully in department operations based on training and certification.

Responsibilities may include:

• Fire suppression and emergency response

• Training drills and department meetings

• Apparatus, equipment, and station maintenance

• Community events and public education

Active Members with Restrictions (Ages 16–17)

This membership category allows younger members to begin their fire service journey in a structured and supervised environment.

Members may:

• Participate in training appropriate to age and certification

• Assist with non‑hazardous tasks on emergency scenes

• Support department operations and events

• Learn fire service fundamentals and teamwork

All activities are conducted in accordance with New York State regulations and department policies to ensure safety and appropriate supervision.

Training & Equipment

The Mellenville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 provides:

• Required fire service training and certifications

• Hands‑on instruction from experienced members

• All necessary turnout gear and safety equipment

• Ongoing education and skill development opportunities

Training is designed to prepare members safely and professionally for their role within the department.

Time Commitment

We understand that members have school, work, and family obligations.

Typical involvement includes:

• Regular training drills

• Monthly meetings

• Emergency responses as availability allows

Participation expectations are clearly communicated, and members are encouraged to contribute at a level that fits their schedule while remaining dependable.
